Kuta Beach

Kuta Bali

Kuta in addition to being the Sunset Site Number One, with its daily spectacular sunsets, it is also the centre of night life activities in Southern Bali and a shopping mecca, with its lines of shops, boutiques, and galleries. Restaurants line up the streets as well as the Bachfront,Hotels, ranging from a small, inexpensive homestay to a luxurious resort, will ready accomodate you.

The beach of Kuta is one of the first favorite beaches discovered by tourist. On the south, the beach is fenced by the airport’s runway, which gives you a breathtaking landing experience. The beach stretches as far north as the eyes can see. As short walk away north, waves will invite you to test your surfing

Kuta is very short drive away from the airport, and transportation is readily available to take you from and to Kuta to and from anywhere else in Bali.

Sunsets of Bali

A Spectacular Sunset

There is only one word to describe the sunsets in Bali: spectacular. In winter solstice in December, when the sun is close to its lowest point, a large, bright orange, red sun will approach the horizon of Kuta, descending ever so slowly. Brilliant shadows are cast everywhere, golden reflection on the water, and strips of clouds march as if to curtain another day. One light strip of cloud will probably march straight into the view, stealing the completeness of the sun, as if to accessorize it with a flowing silk scarf. Millions pairs of eyes are fixated, as the sun's bottom touches the horizon, and, in a matter of minutes, vanishes from the sight, as if it was never there.

Or, in Tanah Lot. A several hundred years old temple stands erect, solemnly guarding the land from the wilderness of the sea. Yet, as the sun begins its journey to its nightly resting place, the brilliance of an orange, red sun softly falls onto the side of the temple, raising its mystique even more. As waves break into the natural stone foundation of the temple, teasing the hundreds of little snakes in the cave in front of the temple, the sun marches down slowly. The millions of people it fascinates do not disturb it, for its ritual must flow. As it draws near the horizon, a magnified shadow of the temple is cast upon your eyes, as if to whisper good night. And in a couple of minutes, the sun rests, leaving traces of the day that has just passed.

Am I romanticizing it? Well, it is drop-dead romantic. Try it. If you don't melt, your next air kelapa muda (young coconut juice) in Tanah Lot will be on me.

Night Life in Bali

Contrary to popular beliefs spread by travel guidebooks, not all of night life activities in Bali are the result of foreign tourists. Two spectacular night time activities that are on the opposite end of a spectrum are distintly Balinese:

  • The Kecak Dance
Also dubbed by Westerners as the Monkey Dance, the Kecak Dance is a spectacular coreographic accomplishment that showcase another aspect of Balinese artistic excellence. One hundred or so bare-chested men sit down on the ground surrounding a bonfire or a fire made from coconut husks, led by a priest or a female dancer in the middle. The only music to accompany them are the beats of their palms clapping or hitting their chests, their thighs, or other parts of their bodies, rhythmically accompanied by shouting and chanting. The dancers move in unison, creating a spectacular sequence of hands stretched out, pulled in, rested on the shoulder of the next person, and waists gyrated left and right. All in a dizzying tempo.
  • Wayang Kulit
Or shadow puppet. Typically performed very late at night, a Wayang Kulit theatrical performance can last until morning. The night performance of wayang kulit is usually considered strictly entertainment, as opposed to a day performance which usually serves strict religious purpose. Temple festivals and other ceremonies can sometimes be a good place to find a wayang performance.

Balinese dances are sometimes performed at night; regularly scheduled performances are available throughout the year.

Besides those two activities, night life as commonly known in the West also exists in Bali, especially in Kuta. For you people-watchers, the cafes, pubs, and discotheques lining the streets of Kuta and Legian are definitely the place to be and to be seen. Pub crawls can require many nights, and the varieties beat even the wildest college town you would ever know. So, if your idea of fun consists of nightly pub crawls and daily sun bathing to cure the hangover, stop simply stay in Kuta, day and night. You won't be disappointed.

Up North near Singaraja, Lovina Beach also has its own collection of pubs, restaurants, and discotheques. The environment is nice, friendly, and relaxed, certainly not as hectic as Kuta. And midnight dipping into the tropical water is also something to experience up there...

Restaurants of Bali

Your visit to Bali is not complete unless you also partake in a delightful gastronomical tour of the food and fruit of Bali. surfing in bali

courtesy of Bali Echo

Surfing has really gained popularity in today's Bali. As the sun approaches the horizon, you can see line of young Balinese men approaching the beach on their surfboards, controlling them with the same gracefullness as in their traditional dances, mastering the waves and penetrating the tubes.

Kuta

Kuta is one of the most popular sites; you can now find basically any surfing equipment there. As the sun approaches the horizon, you can see lines of Balinese approaching the beach, controlling their surf-boards with the same gracefulness as their traditional dances, mastering the waves and penetrating the tubes. Even in Kuta Beach and the area around it alone there are places for difficult surfs. It's best to talk to the locals so you won't get into trouble.

Uluwatu

On the southern tip of Bali, Uluwatu is also high on a surfer's destination list. The road to the beach is pretty well-hidden, off the road to the temple of Uluwatu (which in itself is an amazing three-court temple on top of a few hundred feet cliff). You can't reach it by car - rent a motorcycle or walk for about two miles to get there. The site is very popular among serious surfers.

Nusa Dua.

On the south-eastern tip of the island, the Nusa Dua peninsula has some nice reef that provides good waves for surfing. You can stay on any of the most sumptuous hotels in the world spread around the area, and surfing is readily available within walking distance, from a beginner's level to a challenging one for the serious surfers.

THE BANYUWEDANG HOT SPRINGS

still in mimpi menjangan resort, a new place in there a famous with name THE BANYUWEDANG HOT SPRINGS

Water Quality

Partially located on the resort's ground, the hot springs of Banyuwedang supply the resort with high quality sodium-chloride-calcium-sulphate water, at a basic temperature of 46.4 C. According to a testified spa and mineral water analysis by the German company Hydroisotop, the water is to be classified as aqua ex fonte thermale oligominerale with a comparatively low content of solute gases and radioactivity (Radium and Radon). The water is comparable to other well-known thermal spring waters such as Achen, Neuenahr, Pyrmont and Baden-Baden of Germany, Evian and Vichy of France, Bath of UK and other mineral waters like Hirschquelle, Gerolsteiner, Nauheimer and Rosbacher Urquell.

Hot Spring Pool

Hot Spring Pool

Hot Spring Pool

Possible Forms of Application

Internal : The water fulfills the standards of the German Regulations on Mineral Waters and may be served for drinking for a specified length of time. Local inhabitants have been drinking this water all their life with good health effects and there are reports on comparatively better dental and dermal health of the people using it.

External : skin contact applications such as prolonged warm showering, cold and warm showering, warm baths, thermal changing baths (Kneipp's Wechselbad), warm/cold Kneipp's Surprise applications (Guss), and carbon dioxide or oxygen-added sprinkling spa applications. Soap need not be used extensively as a hardness of 6.5 classifies the water as rather soft. The slightly acid pH of 6.5 makes the water very friendly to the skin. A shooting effect is reported by persons suffering from chronic skin lesions of inflammations (dermatitis, etc.) due to its natural contents of low level H2S-gas and SO4-ions which are known to render specific dermal effects. As the water is rather alt-depleted, drying of the skin after bathing is not necessary.

Enteral : Enemas and Colonix Therapy are possible and world-wide regarded as safe.

Mimpi Resort Menjangan (part II)

a few day ago i post about mimpi menjangan resort. an this one's of many thing in there. i put here for reference before go to there.

THE UNDERWATER

Menjangan Island

The island is part of the Bali Barat National Park, a protected reserve area that encompasses 780 square kilometers. The names menjangan means “deer”. Because the island is in a protected position, currents and wind-generate waves are rarely a bother. The water can be clear-a snorkeler, distinct, 50 meters above and the rest of the time the visibility seldom drops to less than 25 meters.

The coral walls around Menjangan are vertical down to 30-60 meters, and then slope outward. The reef surface is particularly rugged : caves, grottoes, crevasses and funnel-like splits break up the coral wall, and the surface is textured with little nooks and crannies. Gorgonians of many kinds reach large size here, and huge barrel sponges are abundant. Soft corals blanket the colorful wall all the way down.

The island offers fine diving to suit every taste with 7 recommended sites to explore - Menjangan Sites

  1. Temple Point : a sandy site in the eastern tip of the island, a good point to see crocodile fish and nudibranchs.
  2. POS II : a rich reef-wall site up to 50 meters deep with huge gorgonian fans, surgeonfish, jaclfish, batfish, angelfish, coral cod, nudibranchs, shrimps, trevally, lionfish, parrotfish, scorpionfish and shark.
  3. Cave Point : several underwater caves with interesting rock structures to explore inside.
  4. POS I : a sandy slope site from 2 down to 30 meters with lots of soft corals and gorgonians, lionfish, shrimp gobies, sea stars, mantis shrimp, small coral cod and royal dottybacks. Some divers have even witnessed whale shark here.
  5. Garden Eel : a shallow sandy bottom area alive with garden eels which has terrific hard corals with large gorgonian fans, huge barrel sponges, coral cod, angelfish, lionfish, scorpionfish, basslets, anemone fish, cuttlefish, trumpet fish, frogfish, mandarin fish, napoleon fish and school of pelagics
  6. Anker Wreck : believed to have laid there for over century, it is 25 meters long and sits 45 meters deep. Flat rectangular sheets lay in what had been the hold which also contains an assortment of ceramic and glass bottles. The wreck is communalized by soft corals, a good site to see turtle and shark.
  7. Coral Garden : a tees sloping wall leading from 8 down to 4o meters with lots of soft corals, gorgonias and sponges, some large snappers, a few blue-spotted trevally, schools of fusiliers and a black-tip reef shark.

Secret Bay

Approximately 30 minutes drive from the resort, located on an adjacent bay to ferry harbor of Gilimanuk, the Secret Bay is a unique easy shore dive often considered as a site for new discoveries and best for macro photography. It is 25 C (77 F) on average, a chilly 5 C colder than most other dive sites around Bali. This is due to the nearby deep water cold currents which are directed into the bay by upwelling and the daily tidal changes. It is because of this cold water, along with the shallow sand and sea grass environment that makes this place so special. It has a unique blend of tropical, temperate, Indian and Pacific ocean species, all living in the same bay.

Among the many varieties like seahorses, nudibranchs, gobies and dragonets, it is the abundant and variety of anglerfish and scorpionfish that makes this dive site so exiting. There are at least 4 different species of anglerfish that have been found in Secret Bay including the Spotfin Anglerfish and Sargassum Anglerfish. But it is one species which has been producing great interest, locally known as Tono’s Anglerfish, about 30 cm in length and usually yellow coloration. It has an interesting esca (bait) that is unusual to any other species. This indicates it may be a new sub-species or even a new species all together.

Secret Bay has the most stunning variety and diversity of scorpionfish. One of the most common species found here is the Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus branchypterus), which, due to its surrounding environment, has adapted its coloration to a dazzling rusty red body with vivid green eyes. The Blue-Finned Lionfish is apparently a first for Indonesian waters. With the eclectic blue pattern on its pectoral, it is very easy to see how it got its name.

Mimpi Channel

Only 5 minutes by boat, in the narrow entrance channel leading into the resort’s bay, is a site with delicate hard corals growing in tower-like structures. Colors were bright and vibrant in different shades of green and yellow. One area in particular has dozens of these two and three meter high coral towers, all closely packed together. Among the corals there are various gobies, blennies, lionfish, mandarin fish, nudibranchs and blue spotted trevally.
